Arabic Language Teacher – Classical, MSA, Darija, dialects

Roots Academy (Arabic: جذور/Judur) is a startup school specializing in teaching Arabic as a foreign language. Judur was born out of necessity; the education systems of the world were not created equal, with substantial gaps between public and private schools. We work on bridging these gaps by offering Arabic language and culture classes to all people. With our program, we are preparing students to use Arabic as a tool to accomplish whatever they want with it. We provide accessible Arabic language and culture education to all people of the world. We bridge the gaps between public and private institutions, and generate solutions to educational inequality by creating opportunities through language and intercultural competency training.

Roots is currently working on teaching Arabic classes to immigrants, refugees, and other international students. 

Therefore, Roots Academy is looking for a teacher to work with our team under the supervision of the director to teach classes, develop the curriculum, and research and create Arabic material.

Training: 

Minimum level of education Bachelor's degree in Education, Arabic Language,  Applied Linguistics, English or French. Master’s degree in one of the above preferred. (Other degrees may be accepted with proof of interest and knowledge in Arabic language).

Profile required:

• At least 2 years' previous experience in teaching Arabic as a second language and/or a Master’s degree in teaching Arabic as a foreign language. 
• Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills; very good analytical skills; ability to identify and set priorities in a professional manner; high attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines; ability to deliver clear and complete reports.
• Well-organized, demonstrating discipline and ability to deliver quality work in a timely manner
• Interpersonal skills (availability, listening, patience, positivity), dynamic personality 
• Teamwork and adaptability
• Arabic and English written and spoken fluently, French is a plus

Transversal Skills:

• Perform well-organized research 
• Proven teaching skills
• Organizational skills for setting up training sessions
• Conduct meetings
• Write reports, information materials and correspondence.
• Good knowledge of computer tools, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Confirmed ability to adapt and anticipate, showing open-mindedness and initiative.

Researching and building material:

• Assess and evaluate the material used in teaching Arabic as a foreign language 
• Prepare teaching materials for Darija and MSA 
• Participate in creating media Arabic content

Teaching

• Teaching Darija and/or MSA as a second language 
• Correct assignments and exams  
• Follow up with students if and when there are online classes
• Set up a gradebook
